We have just received four Sun Blade 150s each with an XVR-500
accelerator. When we power up the Sun Blade and it tries to run the
configuration of the pre-install image the X server fails to start.
When the XVR-500 is the default output device the console reports:
VUIDGFORMAT: Invalid argument
giving up.
/usr/openwin/bin/xinit: Connection refused (errno 146): unable to
connect to X server
/usr/openwin/bin/xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
When the onbard video controller is used as the default, the screen
flashes a few times and then the xinit errors above appear.
I am guessing the X server does not know how to communicate with the
XVR-500 without its drivers being installed. Even having the card
installed seems to affect the system even if we are using the onboard
controller. Our local Sun engineer is having a similar problem with our
V880z.
Any thoughts? We have the XVR-500 install CD. Can that be applied to
the pre-install image? Or should we just do a clean install of Solaris
(the X server on the Solaris installation CD doesn't start either but
we can continue in console mode) and then install the XVR-500 drivers?
Thanks!
