redundant power supplies fail to be "redundant"

While trying to rework power distribution on some of our Sun systems
(E22R/E240R), we experienced a system failure (reboot) when
disconnecting only one (AC-1) of a systems redundant power supplies.
Before disconnecting the primary power supply, both were powered from
disparate sources, had green lights and appeared to be 100%.

The secondary power supply (AC-2) was connected to power during this
entire event.

Any ideas as to why power supply redundancy fails on multiple systems?

Thanks.
