Exabyte VXA-2 drive problem

I've attached an external SCSI Exabyte VXA-2 drive to our Sun box running
Sol9. An internal DSS-4 drive is also hooked up. Per the instructions, I
added this to st.conf

tape-config-list=
"EXABYTE VXA-2", "Exabyte VXA-2", "VXA-2";
VXA-2 = 1,0x36,0,0x1de39,2,0x80,0x81,1;

and did a reboot -r. Back in Solaris I checked to see if it was configured
with mt -f /dev/rmt/1 status and it showed up ok.

When doing backups to the DSS-4, I did ufsdump like this

ufsdump 0uf /dev/rmt/0cn /
ufsdump 0uf /dev/rmt/0cn /var
etc ...
etc ...
ufsdump 0uf /dev/rmt/0cn /disk1

until all the volumes were done. After rewinding the tape, I could check
to see that stuff was written to the tape with

ufsrestore isf <dump file #> /dev/rmt/0cn

However, when I do the same ufsdump on the VXA-2 drive, rewind the tape and
then check it with ufsrestore isf 1 /dev/rmt/0cn, all I see is the last
dump file. If I do it again, it asks for another tape to be mounted. It
appears the VXA-2 is ignoring the no-rewind flag and rewinding the tape
after each dump file. Not what I'm looking for. Anybody know what's going
on here?
