Stalling FTP processes

Folks,

We have a 280R and a V480 connected to an enterasys switch (2 diff blades,
as one is copper, the other optical) forming a gigabit link.

Solaris 9 - latest patchset
280R has Ge0 interface (OPtical)
V480 has Ce0 interfaces (copper)
VxFS V3.5
Data to/from RAID5 on 3310 Array.

When I ftp files from one to the other, things go ok.... ranging from
9MB/Sec up to 23MB/Sec (ok.. its a little slow... ). 100 GB transfer
completes normally.

480 -> 280 OK but a little slow.
280 -> 480 fast but fails.

When I ftp files in the oppositer direction, we get 3x speed-up 31MB/Sec up
to 37 MB/Sec. (Hmm.. speed diff is noted for same payload .. hmm), but the
transfer gets interrupted with the sending box desparately trying to arp the
other box (Ping even fails). FTP does not complete,

Any ideas why Pings and FTP would fail, or cause ARP cache to be completely
hosed?

Switch issue? Stack issue? Ifconfig issue? FTPd issue?

There are no entries/hints in either machines syslog.

Thanks to all!
