late summary, but anyhow : simply stated: our V100's running Solaris-9 need
patch 114388-02 to do properly the auto-negotiation of Ethernet-line when
their cable is unplugged/plugged. All other reasons why this was not
happening correctly are irrelevant.

Thanks to Hichael Morton, Joe Fletcher, John Mitchell, Yiannis
Kanellopoulos, Greg Mani for their suggestions.

Subject: V100 not getting dmfe1 link back up !

Hi,

we have problem with one of our V100's (Solaris-9) at a customer site : it
is connected via dmfe1 to a switch, and that switch power-cycled last night.
Before this the communications over dmfe1 into customer's network went fine.
The reset of the switch caused the link on this NIC to go down (of course),
but when the switch was alive again, the NIC didn't come up again.

We had one of our engineers go on-site to check the switch, cables and so
on, also using his own laptop.
Using his own laptop, the same UTP cable, and the same switch/port,
unplugging and replugging the UTP cable between the switch and his laptop
worked fine : link went down/up.

Once the cable from the SUN V100 to the switch was unplugged, the link went
down (for sure), but putting the cable back in the link did not come up.
I checked stuff like auto-negotiation on both ends (switch / V100) and
they're both set to auto-negotiate.
The current status of the SUN-V100 dmfe1 NIC is UP/100Mbps/full-duplex
(auto-negotiated).

When link is down, I only know about reboot to get the link back up.

Any suggestions why this can happen ?
Any workarounds ? Patches ? (bundle of recommended patches is installed)

Rob
