Problems with Sun PCI Dual Ultra3 SCSI

Hi,

we've just installed a new Sun-Fire 280R system which includes a Sun StorEdge
PCI Dual Ultra3 SCSI adapter and we're experiencing problems accessing an
external 3rd party RAID device based on the Infortrend SentinelRAID 2500
controller through this SCSI HBA.

The SF 280R is running Solaris 9 4/03; has the drivers (SUNWqus, SUNWqusu,
SUNWqusx, SUNWqusux) and patch 112706-02 installed and the machine correctly
recognizes the SCSI HBA from the PROM and the operating system (prtdiag -v &
boot messages). However when the external RAID is connected a reconfiguration
boot hangs (indefinitely) at the point at which it should identify the RAID
device. The only way past this point is to reset the RAID which generates:

WARNING: /pci@8,600000/pci@1/scsi@4/sd@1,0 (sd31): disk not responding to selection
WARNING: /pci@8,600000/pci@1/scsi@4/sd@1,0 (sd31): disk not responding to selection
WARNING: /pci@8,600000/pci@1/scsi@4/sd@1,0 (sd31): disk not responding to selection

The machine then continues booting and the RAID device can be added by using
"devfsadm" and accessed normally. However any subsequent reconfiguration boots
lead to the machine hanging again which is far from ideal. The RAID is
recognized at the PROM via "probe-scsi-all" and the SCSI HBA is installed in
PCI slot 1 (66MHz/64-bit). All cabling and the RAID itself are 160MB/sec LVD.

What makes this more mysterious is the RAID device works fine when connected
to an UE450 (running Solaris 8) either through this SAME Sun adapter or a LSI
logic ITI6200U3LP-S dual UltraSCSI 3 card; also the RAID device doesn't hang
the SF 280R when connecting through a (borrowed) ITI6200U3LP-S card rather
than the Sun card!

We've tried different SCSI cables, playing about with the termination at the
RAID end, reseating cards, etc but to no avail. Has anyone seen anything like
this or have any ideas?

Thanks,
