Hi List
Wow! Thanks to all your replies to my posting.
In summary,
find /dev -type f -ls
- Produces no output
cd /dev/rmt
ls -ltr
- shows nothing dated since march 2000
find /dev | wc -l
- returns "1483"
du -ardk /dev | sort -nr | more
- returns:
67374 /dev
1130 /dev/md
868 /dev/md/shared
425 /dev/pts
261 /dev/md/shared/3
261 /dev/md/shared/2
261 /dev/md/shared/1
130 /dev/md/shared/3/rdsk
130 /dev/md/shared/3/dsk
130 /dev/md/shared/2/rdsk
130 /dev/md/shared/2/dsk
130 /dev/md/shared/1/rdsk
130 /dev/md/shared/1/dsk
130 /dev/md/rdsk
130 /dev/md/dsk
25 /dev/rmt
25 /dev/rdsk
25 /dev/dsk
-- the rest are smaller
/dev/rmt
- folder just contains links
ls -las /dev/null
- returns
2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Feb 7 1999 /dev/null ->
../devices/pseudo/mm@0:null
Don't know if this is relevant, the machine did have a scsi tape
streamer attached (not for about a year)
Also, the disk space appears to be being used up when a user on a
website with a 'content management page' uploads a picture (I know this
doesn't make sense) The images are actually stored in blob fields in
mysql (not in the root partition) and apache is not on the root either.
The reason I suspected this process, is that as soon as you upload a
picture the 'file system full' notice appears.
Apart from . files is there any way of hiding a file in /dev? what about
filenames beginning with a 0 (zero)?
Once again, many thanks to all the people that took time to reply. If
you have any further thoughts please let me know.
Jon Harris
