Network Issue

I have a hot one that's driving a co-worker nuts. I've done this before
but the answer is just out of range.

System A:
  hme0: inet=10.10.117.230
         gw=10.10.117.1

  qfe:
    qfe2= 10.10.87.254

We're trying to use the gateway 10.10.87.249, a router attached to
  qfe2 to connect to a box 10.10.86.43. 86.43 is connected to the
  router off qfe2.

We've tried a host route, /etc/gateways and a netroute to 86 through
  qfe2 but traceroutes are still showing through the hme0, not qfe2.

Due to the traffic we're sending as well as the ammount we don't want to
  use the hme0 interface.

Suggestions?

:wq!
