That doesn't make sense. There are two different issues:
 

*
        You can't have multiple locks on a single device (but that makes sense)
*
        You run into issues on the host running SYMCLI commands - you run into potential locking issues against the SYMCLI. To get around this you can set an environment variable named: SYMCLI_WAIT_ON_DB which will cause the command to wait on the database (usually seconds)

Otherwise I am not sure what they are referencing - my guess is your real issue is the SYMCLI_WAIT_ON_DB issue not being very clearly communicated. Once again this assumes you are executing the BCV commands on a single or a few of the same hosts.

We do nightly EMC/BCV snaps using our Tivoli Job scheduling application. Each jobs are run serially because we are told the EMC DMX can not handle more than one lock during a establish or split.
 
This seems to be very inefficient, any comments, suggestions welcomed.
