Check /etc/nsswitch.conf and make sure you are using files first then dns. If /etc/nsswitch.conf doesn't exist, it defaults to dns first.

I changed my IP Address and Gateway on my B2000 HPUX 11 workstation to
our new segment in /etc/hosts and /etc/rc.config.d/netconf and rebooted
the system and its hanging at the NFS server client service and just
sits there, and I eventually just power off the machine. Here is the
error: "nfs server (pid1035/net) not responding still trying"
Any suggestions?
