Greetings,

We had a presentation from HP last week that briefed us on the 11i
roadmap and the plans to migrate from PA-RISC to Itanium over the next few
11i revisions and ultimately dropping the PA-RISC compatibility/chipset in a
few years. It looks like PA-RISC compatibility for future revision of HP-UX
11i would probably be removed from 11i v4, hence, this is probably the right
time to start planning for a migration towards the Itanium platform
eventually. We were informed that there are about 2700 3rdParty applications
that have been certified on Itanium platform, HP/Intel would be willing to
work with the customers to get any 3rdParty application that is currently
not on the certified list to obtain one, since there has been a huge
investment/interest from both the companies to push the Itanium chipset. I
am trying to figure out how much of the current HP-UX user community has
started migrating or completed migrating or started planning the migration
to the Itanium platform, any good/bad experiences to share with etc??. We
were even told that in some cases, the applications were able to work as it
is on the Itanium boxes, hence, it may be worthwhile to try running the
legacy applications (that may only be compatible for 10.20/11.00 or just the
PA-RISC chipset) to see how it goes, any comments on that?. Also, has
anybody tried going through the in-chassis upgrade for the PA-RISC H/W to
the Itanium H/W on the compatible models, if so, how has the experience
been?. Appreciate all your help.

Cheers,
Srinath
