Leading 0's in IP AddressIf you add a leading 0 to the ip address then that part is considered as an octet number instead of a decimal. But before doing the traceroute or ping command that will be converted to a decimal number . In your case the equivalent decimal number of the octet 055 is 45. So it will try to trace the route to 45.xx.xx.xx. If you want to use the leading zero try using the octet number 067 which is equivalent to decimal number 55. eg; traceroute 067.xx.xx.xx , this will actually trace the route to 55.xx.xx.xx.

Subject: [HPADM] Leading 0's in IP Address
If I do a traceroute of 55.xxx.xxx.xxx
I see the following
55.xxx.xxx.xxx (55.xxx.xxx.xxx)
If I add a leading 0 to the ip address 055.xxx.xxx.xxx
I get the following results
055.xxx.xxx.xxx (45.xxx.xxx.xxx)
Why?
