I have a largly HP-UX shop with Veritas Storage Migrator implemented on an HP V2600 which is integrated with a Veritas Netbackup environment which is running on Sun Solaris servers. Management has unfortunatly decided that we could of avoided a number of bug related issues had we implemented Storage Migrator on a Solaris platform and as a result have asked us to move this environment to a sun server.

The problem we are faced with is how to move the 12 TB of migrated data (on DT devices) from the HP storage migrator server to the Sun Migrator server. Veritas has told us that the only way this could be accomplished would be to cache the files back to the V2600, copy them to the Sun server and then re-migrate them. Unfortunatly the expected throughput of 50GB per hour would result in this process taking the better part of a year during which this migration application would be unavailable. Management has asked for this entire project end to end,to be done in less then 2 months.

Has anyone had expereince using the storage migrator export/import process to export from HP to Sun or Sun to HP. Does anyone who has performed such a migration before have any advice for such a move (other then staying on the HP server which would be the most cost efficent and risk free path to take).
