[HPADM] Summary (Addendum): Configuring an SC10 array with IRM

The DBAs finally got desperate enough for more disk space that they gave me a maintenance window to do the configuration.

It went very smoothly and quickly and according to the documentation. So quickly, I spent several minutes waiting for something to happen when the configuration had already finished.

The UI is not the most graceful I've used, but it was straightforward and did what it said it was going to do. A summary of planned actions prior to the commit would have been assuring as would some sort of confirmation that it had completed successfully.

I rebooted the system to chase all the users and processes out of the file systems that reside on the array and then unmounted them. I did this to guarantee that the 4Si controller that I was going to configure was idle. I then used the "Easy Configuration" option to add the 5 new, 36 GB disks into a new LUN. Next, I remounted the file systems and used SAM to extend the VG and the LVs that held the file systems.

The entire IRM configuration operation took about 1 minute and the LVM operations took another 10. The special backup and reboot added a couple of hours.

Subject: [HPADM] Configuring an SC10 array with IRM

I need to configure some newly installed disks in an SC10 array using
IRM. The existing disks are not used for boot and neither will the new
ones. We are running 11.0 on an L class system with a 4Si controller card.

The IRM documentation makes the process sound straightforward.

Is it?
