Thanks all.

>From Vince Taylor, I got the basic commands. In short they are:
At the effective console, type <ctrl>b . The system will prompt with
ServiceProcessorLogin and Password. Most likely (unconfigured) they are both
blank. (newer systems might have 'Admin' as default for both of them). Then,
`lc` is the command to set the Lan Configuration, `co` is to switch back to
COnsole mode.

I found (the hard way) `he` gives some HElp mode. With that, I found `EL`
for Enable Lan That was needed too. (and SO, SecurityOptions can ruin your
day...)

Once at the lan-console (telnet to the newly configured connection), it
clearly states that it is read-only and <ctrl>E CF switches to 'normal'
mode at which you can actualy work.

btw: the Lan Console is part of the Guardian Service Processor (gsp). Many
thanks for many replies that pointed that out. The next urls came with this

Digging in that info, I also found there are (at least) 2 revisions of the
gsp board with respect to the lan console: Some are only 10Mb/s, some are
10/100Mb/s. I found no info on how to force the speed settings. Since it is
for telnet purposes only, anything is good enough. (Except that a 10Mb/s
connection will degrade a 10/100Mbit hub and all its connections ;-)

Thanks all that did not reply for not replying, I got my info and was not
jammed with mail ;-).

Subject: [HPADM] Lan console documentation
Our N and L class servers are both equipped with a webconsole and a
lanconsole. Since I'm fighting with the horrible performance of the
webconsole, I'd like to switch to the lan console, wich does a better job on
the one machine that has it configured.
Can someone point me to the documentation of the Lan Console board,
specially the configuration details?
Thanks
CBee
