Thanks to all who responded. Kevin Davisson nailed it - the PIM info seemed
to point to a memory problem. Reseating didn't help, so I replaced the
memory with some from a C110 we are getting rid of, and it worked. :) These
C-class machines seem to be really flaky. After replacing the memory, the
on-off button on the front wouldn't work. So I reseated the disk cage and
then it worked, but now the boot process couldn't find the disks. Reseated
the cage once more and it came up. Bizarre.

If the SEArch finds your drive just fine, but it still insists on HPMC on
boot, you can go into the SERvice menu. Take a look at the PIM info and see
if you can figure out what's going on. Sometimes it helps to clear the PIM
and reboot so that there aren't so many errors listed. One common problem
that I've seen cause HPMC at boot is failed memory boards (you can try
reseating - sometimes in the C180's they suddenly get better afterward) .

Subject: [HPADM] C180 Boot Problem

I have a C180 that suddenly has decided it doesn't want to boot. It starts
booting from the disk, you all know the point, where it kind of stops and
you wonder if anything is ever going to happen, then they beep and continue.
Well this one never beeps, instead it does a HPMC. I was able to record the
following before the screen blanks and it tries to boot again:

        check=2000000
        CPU=9E00004

Any ideas? TIA!

Craig
