[HPADM] su says "sorry"

Hi All,

I've got a bit of a wierd problem. On one of our boxes ( a D220 ) when
trying to su to root like this "# su - root" we simply get the response
"sorry" as if the passwd is incorrect. Yet if I log on at the console with
the same passwd it works everytime. I'm sure it's not a typo problem. Anyone
know what's causing this? I'm guessing it's some obscure security setting
somewhere. Any help would be appreciated. I will summarise. TIA

Rgds,
