hi list,
we plan to order a rx5670 (FC-controller
A6795A) and connect
it to our SAN (clariion FC4500
& Emc2 DS 8B-switches).
BUT it´s seems to be not
so easy!
HP & Emc2 say, at the moment
there is for
this config not certification!
has anyone such a config?
thank for any tips!

Kurt,
I've done this with an L-class
and N-class via EMC DS-16b (i.e. painted
Brocade) switches. I think
the cards were A5838A Tachyon Lite models,
although that's not 100% certain.
I'm also not sure it was a supported
architecture, just that it worked.
You may want to push EMC on this
point, it may just be a configuration
that hasn't made it into their labs
yet.
I don't see your A6795A cards
in the copy of the EMC interoperability
matrix I've got, but it's at
least 6 months out of date so has probably
updated. If these are the
newer HP 2gb cards, then I can say I've got
them connected through the same
model DS-16b to an EMC Symmetrix with no
problems.
I would expect the configuration
to work, but since EMC is dumping support
for older (i.e. non-CX600) Clariions,
for it never to become formally
supported.
Good luck!

I would be VERY cautious about
trying to make an
unsupported/uncertified combination
of products
work in a SAN environment. The
products are so
costly and there are almost no
standards for many
of these connections. Even the
supported ones can
be tricky to get working.

Your configuration should work
fine even though HP has not certified it.
Fiber channel communication
follows industry standards and the Clariion
should appear to the HP server
like any other external disk array.
Currently, HP and EMC have sued
each other over patent infringements
(http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,3959,598854,00.asp) and that probably
explains the unwillingness to
certify your configuration. I think it's
only political.

Well maybe this thread will help
you decide which fiber adapter you
might want to consider...
