[HPADM] s800 D380: rs232 help needed: make Serial-1 work like Serial-2 ?? ?

Hi everyone!

I'd like to know if there's a way to make the Serial-1/Console rs232 port
(mux2) behave the same way as the Serial-2/UPS port (mux0) on a Hp9000s800
D380 machine, or at least to bodge up a cable to make it so.

I presently have these two devices files (under hpux 10.20) for the rs232
ports:

crw--w--w- 1 root sys 193 0x000000 Jul 15 08:37 /dev/tty0p0 (Serial-1)
crw------- 1 root sys 1 0x010000 Jan 28 08:51 /dev/tty1p0 (Serial-2)

I have a serial connection from a RAID controller plugged into Serial-2
(which
works just great), and also want to plug in an APC SmartUPS-1250 into the
other
port. I can't get it to establish communications on Serial-1, but it works
fine when I move it over to Serial-2.

I tried the old "flip pins 2<-->3" trick on the DB9-F connector, to no
avail. I
also tried jumpering pin 6 (DSR) to pin 7 (RTS), but that didn't work
either.

Should I try creating a device special file for tty0p0 using major number 1
instead of 193? Should I try a different cable pinout arrangement?

TIA! Regards, Joe M.

PS: the APC cable #940-0024B pinout which works on Serial-2 is:

      Computer UPS
       DB9-F DB9-M
       ===== =====
        RxD 2 ----- 2 TxD (Send)
        TxD 3 ----- 1 RxD (Receive)
        GND 5 ----- 2 TxD (Ground)
