Praveen-

I see a lot of different definitions out there for stripe width and size.
*My understanding* is that:

stripe width = The number of physical volumes that accomodate the striped lv.
= the number of drives striped across, example: 8 disks

stripe size = Specifies the size of the stripe for a striped logical volume.
In AIX the size can be 4K, 16K, 32K, 64K or 128K bytes.
This is also referred to as the "stripe unit size" or "chunk size".

The ["stripe width" * "stripe size"] = ["stripe length"]
but you will see "stripe size" and "stripe length" swapped around a lot.

The Redbook: "AIX Logical Volume Manager from A to Z" has some info on striping.

Remember:
striping is done at the LV level
To benefit from striping, the stripe size needs to be low like- 128K, 64K in order
                to get multiple drives active.
