I've been slightly confused by this thread. Sending mail from AIX to exchange should be as simple as sending to an smtp address. Or, are you trying to use the AIX server as an smtp gateway?

I agree with John...I've done this several times in the past, without
Samba. The Exchange server should know how to "talk" smtp...if not, your
Exchange admin should be able to fix that. If they don't know how to
enable it, I can ask here to see what needs to be done.
