aix 4.3.3 mkcd to DVD-R?

I searched the Archive and only found one reference to doing this, but a couple of the messages in the thread came up blank. We'd like to add a DVD-R device to our system to do backups of the database, but I'd also like to be able to do mkcd backups. I know 5.2 has the mkdvd command, but will the 4.3.3 mkcd work with a DVD-R?

Anyone have any experience with this?
