what about good old shell as printer device
you have basic simplicity, paralelism, job control, accounting
etc ...
It is well described and much impler for one machine than Load Lever

if you want a workload control it is easy to use WLM and special batch class

Simon,

The requirements are basically restart ability with error logging and job statistics. I thought about scripting a wrapper for them but this has potential to be thousands of jobs and the scripting could get rather ugly. The Tivoli solution might be an option also.

It sounds like you're after a scheduling package: something more powerful than cron but without spending significant amounts - or any? - money. Is that right?

If so, what features do you require?

If your needs are really basic you should be able to cope adequately by writing a wrapper script, to invoke your jobs and provide simple job-flow.

Is anyone using or even heard of an AIX job streaming program? What I need to do is cron 1 job, or a job streamer that will launch multiple jobs. We are trying to consolidate some of our batch processing.
