Joseph, couple quick hints:

1) Try randomizing the layout to avoid seq. IO bottlenecks:

IE
lv1 hdisk1 hdisk2 hdisk3......
lv2 hdisk6 hdisk5 hdisk4 .....
lv3 hdisk3 hdisk2 hdisk1 hdisk4 hdisk5....

2) set range of physical volumes to "maximum" to spread each lv across ALL
your disks........this will spread the lv across as many physical drives as
you have and allow you to take advantage of all spindles under your lv to
utilize IO bandwidth as much as posssible..

our oracle guys are shooting for 1000 filesystems (logical volumes,
actually, they are raw), but have run up against the 32-bit ceiling on
that.

Let's say I have 6 disks (hdisk1, hdisk2, hdisk3, hdisk4, hdisk5, hdisk6)
and I want to create 4 filesystems on these disks, spread each filesystem
across all disks for Oracle database.

/fs1
/fs2
/fs3
/fs4

Do I gain any performance by creating more filesystems on the same number
of
disks?

/fs6
/fs7
/fs8
