Hi All ,
I am trying to use GNU tar .

DLT drive is connected to Control Workstation ,The data we want to tar is
on one of the spnode (CPA35) /d04/app/ora/
NFS mounted Directory on control workstation .
using GNU tar for this operation ..

Upon executing tar command ,It returns back with Execute permission
denied error .. the directory is exported as root from Spnode35 (CPA35 )

spcws01@/>mount cpa35:/d04/app/ /mnt

spcws01@/>cd /mnt
spcws01@/mnt>ls
ora tar
spcws01@/mnt>cd ora

Want to archive all following directories which are in /ora directory .

spcws01@/mnt/ora>ls
apprdnappl apprdnora common
apprdncomn approdora_remove custom
spcws01@/mnt/ora>

spcws01@/>/usr/local/bin>./tar -cvfW cpa35.tar /ora/ /dev/rmt1
ksh: /usr/local/bin: 0403-006 Execute permission denied.

NFS server (node35 )

f3n35 />cat /etc/exports
/var/adm/acct -root=SPCWS01:spcws01,access=SPCWS01:spcws01
/d04/app/ -anon=0,root=spcws01_stby:spcws01

Am I missing something here ?
http://www.gnu.org/manual/tar/html_mono/tar.html#SEC4

Thanks
SD

yeah, but your bitrate sucks (bandwidth over time)....sure, you can send 4
terabytes, but it takes two weeks to get there. :)

ok, substitute "station wagon" for "cargo container" and put it on a plane
or a ship.

Then do the math. The numbers you get boggle the mind (in terms of
bandwidth)!

Old unix-sysadm maxim:

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a 56 Chevy station wagon
travelling down the highway at 60 mph loaded with 8mm tapes.

how much bandwidth between the sites? is it in encrypted link? does the
data need to be secure in transit?

Guys,

I need to transfer/restore approximately 75-100gig of data residing on a
couple SP nodes here (US) to an AIX server in Australia. This is required
in order to refresh a Sydney development environment w/ a copy from our
production corporate Financials environment. This will include
application code (many small files) as well as 50+gig of database files.
We have TSM server running @ both the locations. Could you guys please
discuss options(TSM ,non TSM ) around this and give me your recommendation
on the best method to handle this.

Thanks,

Shekhar Dhotre
