Yes, we put in a 5.1 CD and created them.

Did you create the SPOT and lpp_source on the 4.3.3 machine?

Well then...I guess you can do it.

Well,

We just did 8 of them on to brand new P650's from our 4.3.3 ML11 NIM
master. We created a 5.1 SPOT and a 5.1 lpp_source. Then used a generic
mksysb via NIM to install the sytems. Didn't have any problems at all. I
guess nobody told our NIM server that it wasn't supposed to work.

Thanks,
Christian Lair

No...the master must be at the same level or higher.

Subject: NIM install of 5.x from a 4.3 master?

Hi;

I am an admin in a primarily Solaris shop, with a few AIX boxes performing
some fairly critical work. I am moderately skilled in AIX administration,
but have not worked with NIM before. All of our existing AIX boxes are
installed and configured differently due to different admins doing each of
the installs. We would like to standardize our base install and NIM seems
to be a good way to go about it.

I will likely be sending a number of NIM related questions to the list
over the next couple of days, but my first question is;

Can I have a 4.3.x NIM master provide installation services for 5.1
clients?

Thanks,

Chris
