7208-011 on a 7043-260

I am replacing a 7043-140(not supported on AIX5.2) with a 7043-260 and am
trying to connect my external tape drive, a 7208 model 11. The old 140 has
a female HD50 SCSI connector but the 260 has a female VHDCI connector. I
don't have a cable like that but I have a fast wide differential SCSI 2
adapter that has a female HD50 connector but can't get it to work.
I read that the 7208-011 connects via SCSI for RS/6000s and SCSI-2 for
AS400s. Does anyone know if the 6209 will work with a 7208-011 or do I have
to find a new cable?
