Re: SP2 Questions

I think you'd have to be insane to attempt that dreadful procedure to change
an en0 address. It is much, much simpler to delete the node and add it
back.

And in every case I've come across, it has been sufficient to customize it,
not re-install. This is essentially the same as adding an existing external
server - something like an S7A. I've done this quite a lot, including an
entire SP2 at Easter. (That took me 13 hours; if I'd had to re-install all
of the nodes I could easily have doubled that. If anybody's interested in
that little exercise drop me a line and I can send you a copy of my notes.)

The only thing I can think of which I haven't changed this way is the en0 IP
address, (although I've changed the alias/hostname associated with it). I
am confident that it would be possible to change the IP address this way: I
simply have never needed to do this.

One thing to bear in mind is that customize doesn't update /etc/hosts on the
node, so if you make any changes to this you need to update the node before
you shut it down.

Oh! And if you've got an SP Switch it's a good idea to run Eannotator, and
you may need to do an Estart once the node's back. But no need to do Eclock
or anything nasty like that.

Finally, I mentioned it before but please remember /etc/krb-srvtab. You can
add your new en1 to this manually - it's not too difficult, and is described
in the SP2 Redbooks, (e.g. PSSP Version 3 Survival Guide). A customize
would take care of it for you. If you don't do one or the other you may
have problems with remote commands.
