check if your terminal is not configured to do 'strange' or 'proprietary' emulation modes; ibm's vt100 is a fairly standard vt I presume...
reading /usr/lib/terminfo/wyse.it I see 'proprietary' wyse modes are supported also.

Is it OK at the command line? If so, check the value of the TERM
environment variable. Make sure that it's set to vt100, (export
TERM=vt100).
