old console problem

I have tried to use old console WYSE/vt100 to access a old aix box
RS6000/AIX 4.2.1. I can get console, but can not use smit/smitty ( the
display seems no return).

Can anyone help me with it?

What I want is to change ip address and upgrade it to 4.3.2

Any comments will be appreciated
