when i've seen this with ssa, the hdisk and pdisks still show up, but if you try to allocate them, say to a raid group, you get a message that the device is fenced off.

Are you sure this is correct? Sure: you can't actually do anything with
disks which are reserved by another system, but I thought that cfgmgr would
still configure both pdisk and hdisk. I haven't had a chance to test this,
though.
