        Note that this is an external modem. Even though the internal
bus architecture is PCI, 'standard' internal PC modems would not work
here without a driver for AIX.

It should be. We have used US Robotics Sportster modems successfully
with
several different AIX boxes, (mostly SP2 nodes); I can't see why a 6H1
would
be special. Provided you've got a spare serial port there should be no
problem.
