We use 3480 driver with Atape.driver from IBM and we can change the device
name from rmt1 to tape1 or whatever we want.

Subject: configuring FC-attached tape drives

We have a recently commisioned P650 with, to begin with,
two GB Fibre Channel Adapters (FC 6228) cabled directly to two 3590-H tape
drives.

I've been trying various permutations of mkdev ( see below ) so that we
can give these devices a specific name, rather than the default
rmt1 , rmt2 and so on.

Can anybody help here ? If I run cfgmgr the device comes back as rmt1
and the output of odmget -q"name=rmt1" CuDv is:

CuDv:
        name = "rmt1"
        status = 1
        chgstatus = 0
        ddins = "Atape"
        location = "1n-08-01"
        parent = "fscsi0"
        connwhere = "1"
        PdDvLn = "tape/fcp/3590"

but if I delete the device and issue the following I get the error msg
below:

mkdev -c 'tape' -t '3590' -s 'fcp' -p 'fscsi0' -l rmt14

Method error (/etc/methods/cfgAtape):
        0514-022 The specified connection is not valid.

Any ideas - gratefully received

Thanks
