Re: AIX 5.1 / 64-bit Kernel / No JFS2

As a follow up to this question, is it possible to run JFS2, with the
32bit kernel?

I know you need the 64 bit kernel running to be able to create
JFS2 LV and File systems, but once created, can you switch back
to the 32 bit kernel?

Also, is there a FAQ of what 64bit apps will not run under AIX5.1
64bit kernel? I'm getting this error when trying to install Sybase
v12.0 64bit under AIX5.1 with the 64bit kernel.

"exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program dataserver because of the
following errors: 0509-124 The program is a discontinued 64-bit
object file."

TIA,
Alan

The 64-bit kernel is installed by default, but it isn't linked to
/unix by default. The purpose of the advanced install option is to
link /unix to the 64-bit kernel, and to create rootvg with JFS2
filesystems. After installing the O/S with the defaults (boot
32-bit kernel, create rootvg with JFS filesystems), you can change
to the 64-bit kernel by relinking /unix and /usr/lib/boot/unix to
the 64-bit kernel (/usr/lib/boot/unix_64) and running "bosboot -ad
<boot_device(s)>".

Is there a way to install AIX 5.1 (from the install CD's) with the
64-bit kernel and the regular JFS (not JFS2)? There is an
advanced
install options for the 64-bit kernel and JFS2 (combined together
as
one option). I want the 64-bit kernel but no JFS2. Can anyone help
me out with this?
