As vezes a máquina do sujeito é tão velha que ele não tem mais suporte da
IBM. Ou nunca teve. :-)
De qualquer forma o barramento de hardware é compatível sim e você não
terá problema em plugar a placa. O problema é que um dos requisitos para
fazer a placa funcionar é o driver e você provavelmente não terá um driver
para AIX dessas placas menos famosas. A 3Com tem para algumas placas, o
que explica o funcionamento da Etherlink.

Maybe the machine is so old that he does not have IBM support anymor. Or
have never had. :-)
Anyway, the hardware bus is compatible and you won't have any troubles to"
plug" the card. The problem is that one of the requisites to put the cardw
orking is the driver and I don't think you'will find an AIX driver for
popular NICs. 3Com used to have AIX drivers for some NICs and that's why
the Etherlink is working with your machine.

Mas... a IBM não "chia" pelo fato de instalarem placas de rede da
concorrência? Caso contrário até expansão de memória seria comprável no
mercado paralelo a preço bem menor...Isso não se refere a máquinas fora do
prazo de garantia?

We got Etherlink XL 3COM card on some 43P and it works fine. I think the
answer to your question could be, Is there any AIX driver package to
Realtec Ethernet card? If yes, it will work, if not ....
