Also, make sure that you have your gateway (in the RIPL -> addresses
settings) set to the address of your router on the same subnet as your
client. And, not knowing whether you've done this before or not, you may
wanna check that you have a NIM route set up from your master machine's
subnet to your client machine's subnet...

The client is on a different subnet than the server.
I think I'm leaning more towards this being my
problem, although I'm not sure what I don't have set
up correctly.

ask your network-admin to let the router forward bootp/dhcp
