32bit kernel is installed by default.

You have only enabled the 64bit application environment.

I got the following method from the archives showing how to enable the 64bit
kernel:

Use "bootinfo -y" to verify you have a 64-bits environment.

In AIX5 you can have a 64-bits kernel. To active this use:
1. verify that /usr/lib/boot/unix_64 is available
2. rm /unix
3. rm /usr/lib/boot/unix
4. ln -s /usr/lib/boot/unix_64 /unix
5. ln -s /usr/lib/boot/unix_64 /usr/lib/boot/unix
6. bosboot -ad <bootdevice> (eg. /dev/hdisk0)
7. shutdown -Fr

Subject: [aix-l] How do I know is running 64bit

Hi Admins,

I installed AIX 5L on K260 (64bit box). I used bootinfo -K it showed 32.
I used getconf WORD_BIT also 32. I checked I installed the bos.64bit
fileset.
And the /etc/inittab has the load64bit:2:wait:/etc/methods/cfg64
>/dev/console 2>&1

How can it tell the OS is running 64bit?

Thanks,

Frank
