You can get the source from www.samba.org, or you can go to the bull site
and get it there. Better off getting the newest version, and compiling
it if you have a compiler available to you.

I have never had any problem installing it or running it on any AIX platform,
although there are some features that are not supported on 4.3.3 because of
missing PAM support, etc.

nmbd and smbd can be started with 'swat' or entries in /etc/inetd.conf:

netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd smbd
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd nmbd

(your installation may vary...)

You can also use a 'rc' script that gets started from /etc/inittab, or you
can put entries in /etc/inittab, however, I don't like putting unsupported
code in there (just my retentiveness). The simplest method is the inetd
thing.

Let me know if you need assistance.
