Re: FasT700 Storage

We have just finished demo'ing our FastT700. We have sent the order
for our initial implementation of 42 - 72GB drives.

For our purposes - we came down to the FastT700 or an HP-EVA. (model 8000?)
The only mentionable difference between the two is HP's use of disk
virtualization. The virtualization aspect of the EVA was appealing,
but HP and our reseller didn't want to let us demo a unit.
So, we chose the FastT700, as our IBM rep and reseller went the
extra mile for demo and assistance in starting our SAN.

We are approx. a 95% Win2k / 5% AIX shop.

We are implementing (initially) w/ dual McData 4500 24-port switches.
(Full 2Gb Fibrechannel from drives to HBA's.)

We are looking at backup software now. (Mainly Veritas Netbackup and
Tivoli Storage Manager, due to the SQLBacktrack for Oracle plug-in that
our DBA's want.) One of our major concerns is to shrink our backup
window. Due to limitations in Arcserve - our current full backups take
almost 24 hours on some jobs.

We have oracle/aix, oracle/w2k, exchange2k, and more tested on the 700.

We're happy with it.

Also, we will be implementing a PACS solution in the next 6 months.
(PACS = electronic storage of radiology images: X-ray's, MRI's, CT's, etc.)
We will most likely get a Shark with that project though. (Or at least,
that's what all 3 vendors are offering.)

fyi,
troy

Subject: FasT500/700 Storage

We are considering buying some FasT500/700 Storage for our AIX servers.
Is anyone else out there currently using this solution and if so, how well
do you like it?

Tks in advance....
