One good reason is to use it in conjunction with tcpwrappers.

Sounds like Samba is already running from inetd.

Perhaps someone could answer a question for me. Why would you want to run
Samba from inetd? I have never even heard of running it from inetd in the
past 5 years until I started reading this list.
