where exactly (time) do I let the CE install the card? after setting
"device insertion state"?

It's my understanding that a CE has to physically install the
hardware in order to avoid voiding your warranty if something bad
happens; e.g., you inadvertently blow the drawer's backplane. I've
installed hot-plug cards myself, though rarely, when I didn't have time
to wait on the CE to come on-site. With that given, here's what you
need to do.

Make sure your devices are hot-pluggable.
Make sure that the hardware device drivers are installed.
If you have static LPAR's, make sure that the slot that you
intend to use is assigned to the desired LPAR.
Use the Hot Plug Device Manager task in diag to set the device
insertion state on the slot.
        Run cfgmgr.
Verify that the new device is available.

Actually, I've found this is a pretty slick thing to do.

        Regards,

                Hello,

I have to add fibre-channel and ethernetcards to a p670
while its running in production.

Anybody done that? Gotches, experiences, howtos ?

                Regards,

                Holger
