to answer your question, it's /etc/netsvc.cfg

Pardon my newness here...first an answer and then a question:

I have found that the error you have posted can occur from time to time if
/etc/hosts of both the `exporting` machine *and* the `mounting` machine
contain "each other" in it. For instance:

I have MIS23 and MIS24. I want to export MIS23/home so MIS24 can mount it.
I go into Smit on MIS24 and do the mount, but I get a similar error on MIS24
to what you displayed. Nevermind they are both in DNS. So when I go to
/etc/hosts on MIS23 and put MIS24 in there *as well as* going to MIS24 and
putting MIS23 in it's /etc/hosts (regardless of the state of DNS).

Once I do this, I can mount the export from MIS24.

Now, for you vets (pardon my Linux and Solaris-centric background).

Does this sound right to you? I find it odd that I have to explicitly
declare like that in /etc/hosts just to mount an export. I had originally
thought "Oh well, that must be because /etc/nsswitch.conf is set for "files,
dns" and I just need to switch priority. No cigar. /etc/nsswitch.conf
doesn't exist on any of my 4.2.1, 4.3.3, or 5L boxes.

Q: Is there a similar file to /etc/nsswitch.conf that will make DNS the
priority to change this odd behavior, or is this the default behavior for an
AIX machine?

Thanks! and hope the answer helped.

Subject: NFS question on SP/Regatta

OK - got a good one here. At least it looks like one to me so far...

I built a new SP cluster on a P690 Regatta last week. Now, I am trying to
get some NFS stuff to work. Here is what is happening:

# hostname
f01n01

# mount spcws02:/aixapps /mnt
mount: 1831-008 giving up on:
spcws02:/aixapps
vmount: A system call received a parameter that is not valid.

# showmount -e spcws02
export list for spcws02:
/spdata/sys1/install/pssplpp (everyone)
/spdata/sys1/install/aix510/lppsource (everyone)
/aixapps (everyone)
/nodebackups (everyone)

# ping spcws02

I see the Host Responds is "no", but the host is indeed up. I am having
some "hags" issues on that box right now. The daemon keeps committing
suicide - signal 6.

Anyone have any ideas (on either issue) ?
