This is also not completely true. I have a 7046-B50 and after putting 5.1
on it I could not go back to 4.3 or lower. The solution from IBM was to get
a diagnostics disk, completely erase the hard drives, and remove the
internal battery to drain the NVRAM. Otherwise 4.3 or lower wouldn't work.

If you had a box that supported AIX 4.3.3, then you
should not have any problem going back to AIX 4.3.3,
even if you installed AIX 5.2 at some point. There's
nothing in the OS that would "alter" the machine.

What you CANNOT do is a "reverse migration"; i.e. go
back automagically to your 4.3.3 setup in a fashion
akin to rejecting an applied APAR. You have to
reinstall AIX 4.3.3.
