Drew,

What you want to use is PPP, then you could use plain FTP or RCP/SCP or
whatever you would normally use.

PPP would assign an IP address for you. You would run the PPP server on one
box, and the PPP client on the other.

The AIX System Management Guide: Communications and Networks book has a
little info.

IBM tech support has a PPP Cookbook and some other guides they could send
you (if you have support).

It's not terribly hard to setup vis Smitty.

Good luck,

Kevin Adams

Subject: [aix-l] Dial up dhcp server AIX to AIX

Hello and season's greetings to all,

I am looking for some documentation pertaining to the following:

I would like to have my AIX box dial up using am modem to another AIX box
and obtain an ip address. I need to enhance remote administration and file
sharing for our smaller clients without broadband. I have the modems set up
and tested on each side of the connection, and I can use a third party
product called TERM to transfer programs.

any advice would be very helpful,

Thank you all,

Drew
