the linux box just says the aix box hung up. i don't think it's permissions
on the linux side, since windows xp and linux clients can connect just fine.
my pap-secrets file has ppptest * ppptest for this user....do I need to put
coyote instead of the *?

Well, I assume you are running AIX 4.3.3. Check the logs on your Redhat
box,
they may gleen something, Linux logs the crap out of stuff.

Looking the code up...

The messages and codes manual for 4.3.3 skips component 0838 (stops at 0835
grrr...). AIX 5 does not seem to have a 'messages guide' any more. I guess
we are supposed to know all this stuff by heart now.

Check the login user on the Linux box, make sure permissions are correct,
check your pap_secrets file, make sure passwords, usernames etc, are all ok.
