Most of what I've heard is that it's only necessary or worth it if there is
some 32bit constraint you are hitting.

This is what IBM in Austin said at a technical briefing I attended recently.

64bit systems consume more resources and may not be worth it with your
configuration.

Subject: [aix-l] oracle 32bit or 64bit

I have a new machine coming in,
a 7028 - 6c1, which will be running an
Oracle database (8.1.7) and potentially a web server.

This machine will be configured for 3G
of memory. Is there any advantage to configuring this
machine as a 64 bit machine and installing
a 64 bit version of Oracle? Our current 8.1.7 system
is 32bit.

Thanks,
