Re: DR test-need help w/concepts & overall procedures

"Clone" the H70 to the H50 with the mksysb and an AIX CD set. This is the
safest way to build the other box. It will add device drivers for other
devices not on the H70, and will make the build cleaner. Once you start
loading the mksysb, the restore will ask you if you want to use maps.

Honesty though - for me, in the case of a disaster or a test, I'm not
concerned with "maps" and other non-critical issues. My first concern is
getting systems up and getting some normal operations in place. But of
course, that is IMHO.

Enviro:

H50, SSA 7133-020, AIX 4.3.3.10, Oracle Hotspare, filesystems optimized
w/map file for SSA placement
H70, SSA 7133-D40, AIX 4.3.3.10, Oracle Production 8i
TSM 4.2.2.10, Magstar MP 3570 library

Management has finally decided to test our DR capability with existing H50
HotSpare server.

Not having done DR before, but having seen the DR messages on this listserv
for a year now, I need to be able to put the H70 mksysb onto our H50.

We already have customized/optimized the SSA disks w/map files on the H50
now, so there is going to be a difference in filesystem size and placement
between the H70 Production, and the H50 HotSpare.

Questions:

1) How does using the H70 mksysb tape on the H50 work as far as devices on
the H50? Does it load in drivers specific for the H50?

2) On making the H70 mksysb tape, there is a field for "Create map files"
(Y or N). What does this do and should I set this to Y or N on the H70
mksysb tape?

Remember-I have map files for the H50 that need to be used the filesystem
placement.

3) How do I use the existing H50 SSA filesystem map files when using the
H70 mksysb tape?

4) DR procedure: (overview)

- Load H50 w/H70 mksysb. Get AIX OS running. TSM program files should also
be here to run TSM.
- Reload Oracle data files via TSM onto H50 filesystems.
- Have DBA configure Oracle to run on H50.
