I believe there is a periodic testing of the hot spares that is done, but not 100% sure.

I would be curious if you really had a raid disk fail and the hot spare took over, and now this one is kicked out and listed as failed. Looking at the order of your channels and ID's I would guess that really may not be the case.

The service light will not ALWAYS come on when a drive fails. It depends on what kind of failure it is. If it is physical media problem then it may, if it is electronics problem then it may not.

It doesn't matter that it was a hot spare to replace it. It is still a failed drive. You would still do a similar procedure, Remove a Failed Drive, replace it, then add it back as a spare, then as a hot spare drive (both under Change/Show PCI SCSI Raid Drive Status)
You will probably want to use the "Identify a Drive" option to physically find the drive.
