hmmm... not sure if this works, but you could try:
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e (will enable CDE DeskTop at next boot by placing an
entry in /etc/inittab)
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -help (i think there is "reset" to defaults)
/etc/rc.dt (will start CDE without a reboot)
