"Standard Build" of AIX 5L

Hi *,

I have a question related to Regatta's and AIX5L installs.

We have a P-670 and (2) P-690's going live over the next several months.
We're looking at 14 LPAR's minimum per 690, and 11 for the 670.

I've been trying to come up with a slick way to do the installs of the O/S.
We've discussed (in order of preference) PSSP, NIM, and LVM mirroring to
install the nodes. A more recent discussion has been around a DVD-RAM burn
with a "Standard Build".

Say we install an LPAR with our standard AIX 5L config. We want to take a
DVD mksysb. I've seen the posts on that from the past, so I'm pretty sure
how to do that. The question is this - does anyone think we can make this
a base install CD for all the other almost 40 nodes ? Granted we'll need
to be sure we install all the device drivers for all of our adapters on the
"Standard Build".

Does this seem plausible, or are we perhaps setting ourselves up for ODM
corruption and general system instability ?

Thanks, Bill.
